My professional journey took a fascinating turn in 2018 when I decided to move to Dubai. While I was unsure of which career path to pursue, as fate would have it, an opportunity in communications and digital marketing has unexpectedly emerged. This turn has ignited a strong passion in me for the dynamic world of digital branding and creative content creation.
Over the next five years, I delved into the world of e-commerce, B2C & B2B social media strategies, content production, and manage influencers. As a social media executive, I thrived on exploring new social media platforms and the analytics that fuelled its growth.
Gradually by understanding the digital media trends, I realized that social media is all about captivating video content. To truly excel as a social media expert, I needed to up my video production skills. That's why I embarked on a unique journey, pursuing an MA in Digital Video Production and Marketing from the University of Salford, UK. This program offered the perfect blend of creative development and analytical skills, preparing me to become a social media video creator with a keen eye for data.
Starting a new life from scratch in a foreign country was daunting, especially as a woman. Despite warnings from friends and family about the risks involved in leaving behind a high-paying job and the career I had built over the past 5 years in Dubai, I knew that growth and success often require stepping out of one's comfort zone. Personally, I felt a mix of excitement and doubt, but I made the decision to take the leap. Initially, I faced multiple challenges both personally and academically, but my proactive nature and prioritization skills allowed me to tackle each obstacle one by one, eventually finding my footing. As a multitasker, I balanced my studies with part-time work, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in navigating this new chapter of my life. Reflecting on my experiences, I've come to realize that being a forward planner has been crucial in navigating the challenges and opportunities of student life in the UK.
Throughout my journey at the University of Salford, I met many amazing people and got different opportunities to work with them. The course has provided me with numerous chances to craft marketing videos and campaigns for diverse clients, which significantly enhanced my skills as a creative producer, particularly in post-production editing. Engaging in the creative process was immensely fulfilling, especially when working on projects like the one for the Yorkshire Natural History Museum, where I even had the experience of dressing up as a dinosaur. My keen attention to detail was noted by my course supervisor, who praised me as a strong team player. However, the second trimester presented the most challenging scenario, as I had to juggle three briefs from different clients within a tight timeframe. Through quick thinking and effective organizational & time management skills I learned from my previous work experiences, I not only successfully completed the module with high marks but also improved my ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
My student life in the UK so far has been transformative, shaping me in ways I never imagined. It has been instrumental in boosting my self-confidence and fostering my creative development. Immersing myself in this vibrant academic environment was undeniably the best decision I've made, and I am eager to continue exploring the dynamic work culture here. I am excited to delve deeper into the digital landscape of the UK, where I believe my skills in visual narrative can make a meaningful contribution. With each new experience, I am committed to further developing my abilities and making a positive impact in this ever-evolving field.
